Air-dried lamb complete diet

Here is the one dry food I recommend. The reason being is that it is (1) sourced from quality livestock in New Zealand (2) it is the equivalent of raw diet: it is dried and thus needs no thawing. I recommend rehydrating it since it lacks the moisture of raw food like frozen raw does. It is tad on the pricey side, but worth it in the nutrients it packs into its little pouch (and you don’t need to serve quantities like you’re used to if you’re serving kibble already, please check the label for suggested serving sizes).

Frozen turkey nuggets

Primal is one of my all time favorite pet food brands. These nuggets are wonderful for any cat who does eat their veggies (not so with one of mine)! These are frozen in 1 oz nuggets, so at each thawed meal you serve, you take at the appropriate number of nuggets for the next meal and place in the fridge to thaw. Adds ease and consistency to portioning.

Chicken and turkey treats

Like the lamb treats, this one is a kitty crowd pleaser. I’d prefer if these had been a single source of protein, like just chicken. If your cats become allergic to any foods, it is always easier to sleuth when your foods are isolated proteins, but it is an excellent brand and the cats love ’em and they’re always on hand.

Freeze-dried lamb treats

This tiny treat must taste like candy. It was great as a reward for scratching post training. Now when the cats scratch the post, they expect one every single time. I like the ethics and quality in Orijen foods.

Venison treats

Venison is a great, highly palatable and digestible meat. These are dry roasted pieces of lung (by now you know I do not shy from things like this and, in fact, it is good all around practice to make use of entire carcasses for feeding carnivores). These are dog treats and I think that dog owners have less fear of things like this than cat owners. But realize what a great thing this is for your kitty, too! I started with breaking-up small bits of these treats then worked up to larger chunks. My cats can now munch on the big chunks of these—sizes of things they’d eat on their own in the wild naturally. They crunch on both sides of their mouth and I feel it exercises their teeth and jaws appropriately. Always oversee their eating, especially as you increase size of the pieces you serve.

Chicken grind
