Catnip can make some cats mellow and other cats playful. Also, if you sprinkle a little on a food you’re introducing, they often chow-through the catnip without noticing they’ve been tricked into a new food. Having this around to rub onto their soft toys, new scratching posts, and new foods is a must.

If you make everyone any of my cat toy designs for gifts, this is the perfect accompaniment. My cats run when they hear me take this off the shelf to stuff their toys—it’s a Pavlovian bell for them.
